The hibiscus came from a bush that was hardly more than a stick when I planted it years ago at my family’s home in Hawaii. There was very little soil as the ground was mostly hard volcanic rock. However, on my last visit home, I was astonished at how it had grown and flourished in spite of it’s rocky beginning. Though a few petals were twisted and distorted from the struggle, they were still absolute things of beauty. Made me think of how life can present you with seemingly insurmountable challenges and hardships, yet you can overcome and breakthrough to find your place in the world and become an amazing thing to behold in your own right.
